The Bologna Process - Creating Synergy between Post-Secondary Institutions! |
February 2009 | |

Hello %%First name%%,
Ministries, higher education institutions, students and staff from 46 European countries have come together to form the European Higher Education Area (EHEA). What about Canada?
I've just returned from the Ontario Colleges Conference. One of the presentations that I attended while there was on the Bologna Process and I can't help but pose the question: "If representatives and organizations in 46 different countries, speaking a variety of languages and enjoying diverse cultural backgrounds, can create agreements around higher education, then why has Canada not been able to do this across our Provinces and Territories?" I recognize that some Canadian Colleges and Universities have developed articulation agreements - but there are far more that have not taken this step. Some good questions were posed during the discussion period that followed the presentation by Dr. Hans Pecher and Dr. Graeme Roberts:
The EHEA has created greater mobility for European students and has effectively increased the appeal of European Institutions to students from around the world. I think it's time for Canada to find a way to create an integrated higher education playing ground for our students and institutions! You can learn more about the EHEA here: http://www.ond.vlaanderen.be/hogeronderwijs/bologna Janet Stewart-Lussier is a professional speaker and author and is an expert in the area of career-education. |
