Hello %%First name%%,
The most significant barriers to post-secondary education (PSE) fall under the heading of "motivational/informational" - in fact this affects about one out of every two Canadian students who choose not to pursue a PSE. (1) Motivational and informational barriers are so closely linked that it is difficult to say which one drives the other. Some students lack the motivation and therefore don't seek out information about PSE, while others lack basic information about the benefits, the advantages and the costs of PSE as well as how to finance it...and so they remain unmotivated. Finding a Pathway to PSE
Regardless of which comes first, we must put in place solid career exploration programs at the elementary, middle and high school levels so that our youth have multiple chances to assess their ever-changing and evolving interests and skills and algin those with potential careers. It has never been more important in the history of our country and, in fact, our global economy, that our youth find their own personal pathways to post-secondary. The future of the next and subsequent generations as well as the health of our economy are depening on it! Janet Janet Stewart-Lussier is a professional speaker and author and is considered an expert in the area of career exploration for youth.
