Evaluation of the Ontario Ministry of Education's Student Success/Learning to 18 Strategy

April 2009

Hello %%First name%%,

The Student Success/Learning to 18 Strategy was launched in Ontario as a province-wide strategy designed to ensure that every student would be provided with the tools necessary for them to complete secondary school and be able to pursue their post-secondary goals - whether those goals include college, university, apprenticeship or the workplace.

The Canadian Council on Learning was engaged by the Ministry to evaluate the extent to which the Strategy is producing the intended outcomes.

According to page 25 of the report, "Information gathered during the field visits suggests that efforts are being made to promote pathways other than the traditionally valued university pathway and that schools provide more opportunities for students to follow these pathways than before. The majority (56.1%) of students who responded to the survey say that they plan to go to a university after high school. Another 22.3% plan to go to college, 6% claim that they want to work and 4.6% want to become apprentices. The remaining 11% had not yet decided what to do after high school."
